India earned considerable success on the second day of the Asian Athletics Championship 2023, securing three gold and two bronze medals.

Jyoti Yarraji made history by being the first Indian athlete to win the women’s 100m hurdles event at the continental championships. Her triumph was India’s first gold medal in a major international competition.

Yarraji won the 100m hurdles final event in 13.09 seconds, beating out two Japanese runners, Terada Asuka (13.13s) and Aoki Masumi (13.26s), at the Supachalasai Stadium.

This great accomplishment cemented her claim to the Asian championship, making her the athlete to look out for in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 final.

Ajay Kumar Saroj won the men’s 1500m in a stunning race, while Commonwealth Games silver medalist Abdulla Aboobacker won India’s third gold medal of the day in the men’s triple jump.

The Indians put up a strong performance, winning three of the ten gold medals on offer on Thursday. Aishwarya Mishra (53.07 seconds) and Tejaswin Shankar (7527 points) were the two Indian medalists on the day, taking bronze in the women’s 400m final and decathlon, respectively.
