Canada Open 2023: PV Sindhu’s Walkover and Lakshya Sen’s Advance to Quaterfinals

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen of India advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s and men’s singles tournaments, respectively, at the Canada Open Super 500 tournament. PV Sindhu got to the final eight stage of the BWF Tour Super 500 competition after her opponent Natsuki Nidaira of Japan granted her a walkover.

Sindhu, who breezed through the first round, will meet 2022 Indonesia Masters winner Gao Fang Jie, who was instrumental in China’s victory at the Asia Mixed Team Championships this year.

Sen, an Indian shuttler, defeated the Brazilian shuttler 21-15, 21-11 in a 31-minute second-round encounter. Sen, a Commonwealth Games gold medalist, will meet Julien Carraggi of Belgium in the last 8 on Friday (July 7).

However, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjal were unable to deafeat pre-quaterfinal stage and went down 9-21 11-21 by Indonesian second seed and world number 7 Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan

Earlier on Wednesday (July 6), former champion B Sai Praneeth was defeated by Coelho in straight games 12-21 17-21. In the women’s singles tournament, Ruthvika Shivani Gadde also lost in the first round, falling 12-21 3-21 to Supanida Katethong of Thailand.
